Take a tour of the Assembly Table
Interesting Characteristics
My assembly table is a low, but large work surface for that final assembly phase. The table top is quite large at 7ft long by 3ft wide (actually it's a office door that I picked up for nothing). It's a very flat surface which is ideal for glue-ups and ensuring sub-assemblies pull together square. I built this on a low mobile base with a lower shelf. I store a few long items underneath.
Commentary
I built the base frame for this assembly table with 4x4 fir posts. It's cheap, easy-to-find material (any lumber yard or big-box store). It's great framing material for these sorts of tables in the shop, it makes for a sturdy structure. Like nearly all my workstations, I put this assembly table on casters to be able to move it around the shop. After my workbench this was the second workstation I built in my shop. I find it an essential component for furniture construction. The dead-flat surface is very important during the assembly stage. There are enough challenges bringing a complex piece together, it's like a big jig-saw puzzle the last thing you need is an uneven work surface.
